Red Sox reinstate LHP Brian Johnson from 10-day injured list

August 3rd, 2019

BRONX, NY – The Boston Red Sox today returned left-handed pitcher Brian Johnson from his injury rehabilitation assignment with Triple-A Pawtucket and reinstated him from the 10-day injured list. Johnson will serve as the 26th man for today’s day-night doubleheader against the New York Yankees and is expected to start the second game. Per Major League Baseball Rules, both teams are permitted to add an extra player for today’s games.

President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski made the announcement.

Johnson, 28, was placed on the injured list on June 29 (retroactive to June 27) with a non-baseball related medical matter that was discovered during routine testing by the club’s medical staff. The left-hander made three rehab starts for Pawtucket, going 1-0 with a 3.68 ERA (2 ER/6.0 IP). He has made seven appearances (two starts) for Boston this season, having also missed time on the injured list from April 6-June 13 with left elbow inflammation. Selected by Boston in the first round of the 2012 June Draft, Johnson is 7-7 with a 4.54 ERA (73 ER/144.2 IP) in 51 career appearances (21 starts) since making his major league debut in 2015.
