Club Designates Left-Handed Pitcher Joe Jacques for Assignment

BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today selected left-handed pitcher Cam Booser to the active Major League roster. To make room on the 40-man roster, the club designated left-handed pitcher Joe Jacques for assignment. Booser will wear number 71.

Booser, 31, has pitched in four games for Triple-A Worcester this season, striking out 15 batters in 6.2 innings while allowing two runs on three hits and one walk. Originally signed by the Minnesota Twins as a non-drafted free agent on August 12, 2013, the left-hander retired in 2017 and joined a Seattle-area carpenters union to work in construction. After posting a 1.93 ERA (5 ER/23.1 IP) in 21 games during 2021 with the Chicago Dogs of the independent American Association, the Washington native signed as a minor league free agent with the Arizona Diamondbacks on February 16, 2022. He was signed by the Red Sox as a minor league free agent on February 6, 2023, and recorded a 4.99 ERA (32 ER/57.2 IP) in 48 games with Worcester last season.

Jacques, 29, was optioned to Worcester following yesterday’s game against the Cleveland Guardians in which he pitched 1.2 innings. The left-hander has also pitched in four games for Worcester this season, allowing seven runs in 4.0 innings. Originally selected by Pittsburgh in the 33rd round of the 2018 First-Year Player Draft out of Manhattan College, the New Jersey native owns a 5.08 ERA (16 ER/28.1 IP) in 24 career games (one start) with the Red Sox (2023-24).
