Reds promote Nick Krall to President of Baseball Operations

CINCINNATI - The Cincinnati Reds today announced that Vice President, General Manager Nick Krall has been promoted to President of Baseball Operations.

Vice President / Assistant General Manager Brad Meador has been promoted to Senior Vice President / General Manager.

“Nick has a great baseball mind and has shown exceptional leadership in advancing every aspect of our baseball operations,” said Reds CEO Bob Castellini. “Nick and his staff have earned our confidence, and these moves help ensure the positive momentum will continue across the organization.”

This season the Reds are 81-78 and, heading into the final weekend, just 1.5 games out of a qualifying position for the Postseason. Cincinnati is trying to become only the third team ever to qualify for the playoffs following a 100-loss season (2017 Twins, 2020 Marlins). Among among all Major League teams from 2022 to 2023, the Reds rank second to the Texas Rangers (88-70, .560) for the largest increase in wins (+19, Tex +21) and largest increase in winning percentage (+.126, Tex +.140).

The 2023 season is Krall's 21st in the organization. He was hired by the Reds in 2003 to oversee the team’s advance scouting preparation. In 2008, he was promoted to Assistant Director of Baseball Operations, a position he held until 2013, when he was promoted to Director of Baseball Operations. In 2014, Krall became Senior Director of Baseball Operations and served in that capacity until he was promoted to Assistant GM in November 2015. He was named General Manager in May 2018, under President of Baseball Operations Dick Williams, and since October 2020 has been running the Reds' baseball operations department as GM.

Meador, 48, is in his 14th year with the Reds, the last 2 as Vice President/Assistant General Manager, Scouting and Player Development. Before he became assistant GM, he spent 3 seasons as the organization’s Director, Amateur Scouting overseeing the amateur scouting department and all aspects of scouting for the annual first-year player draft. Meador joined the organization as an area supervisor in 2009 and spent 2 years as the Reds’ Midwest cross checker. Before joining the Reds, he spent 10 years at the University of Cincinnati as the Bearcats’ recruiting coordinator and associate head coach. Prior to his stint at UC, Meador spent 2 seasons as an assistant coach at New Mexico State University.
