Roger Caplinger, VP Medical Operations, Health & Safety retires after more than 30 years with Milwaukee Brewers

MILWAUKEE – Roger Caplinger, Vice President – Medical Operations, Health & Safety for the Milwaukee Brewers, has announced his retirement after 33 seasons with the organization.
 
Caplinger has served in a variety of roles and for the past 10 years has overseen all medical operations, which included player health and psychological services, as well as health and safety initiatives for the Club. To mark Caplinger’s service and contributions to the Brewers, the players training room in the home clubhouse will officially be named in his honor him. Further, the Milwaukee Brewers have donated to We Care Fund, an organization near and dear to Caplinger.
 
Caplinger will continue his association with the organization, serving in a consulting role for all health and wellness programs.
 
“It has been a great honor and privilege to work for the Milwaukee Brewers Baseball Club spanning over 30 years,” said Caplinger. “I’m humbled and proud to have spent my entire career with one organization, working alongside countless impressive colleagues who have helped shape our baseball sports medicine program, health and wellness initiatives, that impact the well-being of our players, staff and front office personnel.
 
“I would like to give my heartfelt thank you to the Brewers ownership both past and present, players and front office staff for their unwavering support, collaboration and commitment to excellence,” continued Caplinger. “Most importantly, to my family who has supported my career with the Brewers. My tenure in baseball has given me and my family immeasurable opportunities and for that I am forever grateful.”

We are grateful for Roger’s contributions and know he will continue to be a great resource for us in his consulting role.”
 
In his most recent role, Caplinger has been responsible for all workers’ compensation processing and budgeting for the organization’s medical staff as well as the oversight of an emergency response team, OSHA plan and AED program at American Family Field, American Family Fields of Phoenix and with the Carolina Mudcats. Since 2009, Caplinger has served as the chairman for the Major League Baseball Electronic Medical Records (EMR) Committee.
 
Prior to his current role, Caplinger served as Minor League medical coordinator (1995-97), assistant athletic trainer (1998-2001) and head athletic trainer (2002-11). He was part of a group that was named Major League Baseball Athletic Training Staff of the Year in 2011, and in his time as head athletic trainer, the medical staff was presented the Dick Martin Award by Baseball Prospectus as the top medical staff in all of baseball in 2005. In both 2014 and 2015, the team’s medical staff was honored with the Martin-Monahan Award for Best Medical Staff in Major League Baseball (selected by Rotowire).
 
Caplinger, a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association, the Wisconsin Athletic Trainers’ Association, and the Arizona Athletic Trainers’ Association, is a licensed athletic trainer in both the state of Wisconsin and Arizona. He graduated from the Metropolitan State University of Denver in 1991.
 
Roger and his wife, Jackie, reside in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. His children are Kyle, Gabrielle, Brett and Ryan.
