KANSAS CITY, Mo. (August 28, 2020) – In honor of Jackie Robinson Day, Royals Charities, the Kansas City MLB Urban Youth Academy and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City are excited to host a group of 42 young athletes tonight to watch a movie and tonight’s Royals game.
The pre-selected student-athletes will be invited to the KCUYA at 5 p.m., where they will watch the movie 42 on the field. The film depicts the life of Jackie Robinson breaking the Major League Baseball color barrier.
They will stay and watch the Royals play the Chicago White Sox. First pitch is 7:10 p.m. Royals Charities is partnering with Slim Chickens to provide dinner. This unique experience provides a way for athletes to learn about Robinson’s impact on the game and enjoy a Royals game on TV.
The annual Jackie Robinson Day, which was previously scheduled for April 15, was rescheduled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
