Cobb to be inducted into Arizona Fall League Hall of Fame

October 17th, 2019

Scottsdale, Arizona – The Arizona Fall League has announced that its former director, Steve Cobb, will be inducted into the Arizona Fall League Hall of Fame on Sunday, October 20 at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick before the game between the Surprise Saguaros and Salt River Rafters at 6:30 p.m.

Under Cobb’s direction from 1994 through 2018, the AFL became the premier development experience for Major League Baseball prospects, featuring more than 2900 future MLB players, including 296 All-Stars, 19 MVPs, 6 Cy Young Award winners, 42 MLB Managers, 56 MLB Umpires, and two members of the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Additionally, he mentored 87 current baseball officials and helped them secure the positions they hold today.

Cobb will become the 46th member of the AFL Hall of Fame, joining 2018 inductees All-Star catcher/first baseman Buster Posey and umpires Ted Barrett and Jeff Nelson.

Regarded throughout professional baseball as the “finishing school” for top prospects since its inception in 1992, the six-team league features elite young players from every Major League Baseball Club. Later in the week, following the AFL Hall of Fame ceremony for Cobb, the AFL Championship Game will be played at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick on Saturday, October 26. Tickets for all Arizona Fall League games can be purchased at ballpark ticket windows or at MLB.com/AFL.
