Texas Rangers send OF Scott Heineman and LHP Locke St. John to Nashville

RHP Edinson Vólquez begins rehab assignment at Arizona Rangers

Cleveland, OH -- The Texas Rangers announced this evening several roster moves:

--OF Scott Heineman was optioned to Triple-A Nashville following the second game of Wednesday’s doubleheader in Cleveland. Heineman was 2-for-10 in 4 games since his recall from Nashville on August 2.

--LHP Locke St. John, who was added to the active roster as the 26th man for Wednesday’s second game was returned to Nashville. St. John had been optioned to Nashville before today’s first game when RHP Shawn Kelley was activated from the 10-day injured list. St. John has a 6.35 ERA in 6 games over two stints with Texas this season.

--RHP Edinson Vólquez was sent on an injury rehab assignment to the Rookie Arizona Rangers. He is scheduled to pitch on Wednesday night versus the AZL Indians in Surprise. Vólquez posted a 7.04 ERA in 2 starts with Texas before going on the 60-day IL with a right elbow sprain on April 5.

Heineman’s roster spot on the active roster is expected to go to LHP Kolby Allard, who would be recalled from Nashville on Friday to start that night’s game in Milwaukee. 

Following today’s transactions, the Rangers remain at the 40-man limit on the club’s Major League roster, along with seven players on the 60-day injured list: LHP Jesse Biddle, RHP Luke Farrell, LHP Taylor Hearn, RHP Nate Jones, LHP Yohander Méndez, LHP Jeffrey Springs, and Vólquez.
