HOUSTON, TX - Louisville Slugger has announced that Yordan Alvarez (designated hitter), Alex Bregman (third base) and Kyle Tucker (outfield) are finalists for the Silver Slugger Award at their respective positions. The Astros were also named a finalist for the first-ever Team Silver Slugger Award.
Established in 1980, the Louisville Slugger Silver Slugger Awards honor the top offensive producers at each position in both the American and National Leagues.
Alvarez, 26, is looking to win his second consecutive AL Silver Slugger Award at designated hitter. He batted .293 (120x410) with 77 runs scored, 24 doubles, 31 homers, 97 RBI, 69 walks, a .407 on-base percentage and a .990 OPS in 114 games this season. Alvarez finished tied for eighth in the AL in home runs and RBI, despite missing 39 games due to a mid-season IL stint. Among AL players with at least 450 plate appearances this season, he ranked third in on-base percentage and fourth in OPS. Alvarez, who was selected to his second consecutive All-Star Game this season, is a finalist along with Shohei Ohtani (LAA) for the AL Silver Slugger Award at designated hitter.
Bregman, 29, is looking to win his second career Silver Slugger Award, also receiving the award in 2019. He batted .262 (163x622) with 103 runs scored, 28 doubles, four triples, 25 home runs, 98 RBI, 92 walks and an .804 OPS in 161 games this season. Among AL third basemen, he ranked first in runs, first in walks, first in games played, second in on-base percentage, second in RBI and tied for second in home runs. Lastly, Bregman was tied for second in the Majors with three grand slams this season. Bregman is a finalist along with Rafael Devers (BOS), Isaac Paredes (TB) and José Ramirez (CLE) for the AL Silver Slugger Award at third base.
Tucker, 26, is seeking his first career Silver Slugger Award and has been named a finalist for the third consecutive season. He led the American League with a career-high 112 RBI and batted .284 (163x574) with 97 runs scored, 37 doubles, 29 RBI, 30 stolen bases, 80 walks and an .886 OPS in 157 games. He was one of three AL players with at least 29 home runs and 29 stolen bases. Tucker ranked first in OPS, first in walks, fourth in home runs and tied for fourth in doubles among AL outfielders. Tucker was also selected to his second consecutive All-Star Game this season. Other finalists for the three AL Silver Slugger Award outfield spots include: Randy Arozarena (TB), Adolis García (TEX), Aaron Judge (NYY), Luis Robert Jr. (CWS), Julio Rodríguez (SEA) and Anthony Santander (BAL).
As a team, the Astros finished top-five in the AL in several offensive categories on the way to winning their third straight AL West Division title. They ranked second in hits (1,441), third in batting average (.259), third in runs (860), third in on-base percentage (.331), third in slugging percentage (.437) and fourth in walks (550). The Seattle Mariners, Tampa Bay Rays and Texas Rangers were also nominated for the AL Team Silver Slugger Award.
