NEW YORK, NY – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have placed left-handed pitcher Lewis Thorpe on the 10-day Injured List with left shoulder impingement.

Thorpe, who was recalled prior to yesterday’s game vs. Cleveland, left his start against the Indians in the second inning after experiencing pain in his left shoulder. The 25-year-old has appeared in four games (3 starts) for the Twins on the season, going 0-2 with a 4.70 ERA (15.1 IP, 8 ER), seven walks, six strikeouts and a .237 (14-for-59) opponent batting average.

García, who was claimed off waivers by the Twins on July 30, appeared in four games for the Twins, allowing four runs on three hits in 7.0 innings pitched with four walks and six strikeouts, holding opponents to a .120 (3-for-25) batting average.

To replace Thorpe and García on the 26-man roster, the Twins have selected the contracts of left-handed pitcher Andrew Albers and right-handed pitcher Kyle Barraclough from Triple-A St. Paul.

Albers, 35, appeared in 16 games (15 starts) for the Saints this season, going 6-4 with a 3.86 ERA (91.0 IP, 39 ER), nine walks, 78 strikeouts and a 1.30 WHIP. A native of North Battleford, Saskatchewan, Albers will be making his third career stint with the Twins after pitching for Minnesota in 2013 and 2016. In parts of four major league seasons with the Twins, Toronto Blue Jays and Seattle Mariners, he has gone 7-6 with a 4.10 ERA (120.2 IP, 55 ER), one save, one complete game, 25 walks and 79 strikeouts in 26 career games (18 starts). He made his major league debut with the Twins on August 6, 2013 and began his major league career with a 17.1-inning scoreless streak, the longest to begin a career by a Twins starter.

Barraclough, 31, signed with the Twins as a minor league free agent on June 20 and has appeared in 18 games for the Saints this season, going 3-1 with a 2.86 ERA (22.0 IP, 7 ER), 10 walks and 31 strikeouts. The Santa Clara, California native has made 270 career major league appearances with Miami, Washington and San Francisco, going 16-14 with 11 saves, a 3.53 ERA (252.1 IP, 99 ER), 155 walks and 319 strikeouts. He spent 2021 spring training with New York-AL and appeared in 11 games for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre before signing with Minnesota.

Additionally, to make room on the 40-man roster, right-handed pitcher Beau Burrows has cleared waivers and outrighted to Triple-A St. Paul.
