April 23rd, 2022

MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL, MN – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have selected the contract of catcher José Godoy from Triple-A St. Paul.

Godoy, who was originally claimed off waivers from the San Francisco Giants in spring training, played in four games for the Saints, going 2-for-15 with one double, one walk and three runs scored. The 27-year-old made his major league debut with the Seattle Mariners in 2021 and hit .162 (6-for-37) with one double, three RBI, three walks and two runs scored in 16 games.

To make room on the 28-man roster, the Twins have placed right-handed pitcher Jhon Romero on the 10-day Injured List (retro April 20) with right biceps tendinitis. Romero, who was claimed off waivers from the Washington Nationals in spring training, appeared in four games for the Twins, allowing two runs on nine hits in 5.0 innings pitched, with one walk and six strikeouts.

To make room on the 40-man roster, the Twins have transferred right-handed pitcher Jorge Alcala to the 60-day Injured List. Alcala has missed the Twins’ last 10 games with right elbow inflammation.
