Twins sign right-handed pitcher Dylan Bundy

Former first-rounder signs one-year deal, with club option

MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL, MN – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have signed right-handed pitcher Dylan Bundy to a one-year contract for the 2022 season, with a club option for 2023.

Bundy, 29, went 2-9 with a 6.06 ERA (90.2 IP, 61 ER), six quality starts, 34 walks, 84 strikeouts, a .253 opponent batting average and a 1.36 WHIP in 23 games (19 starts) for the Los Angeles Angels last season. The 6-foot-1, 225-pound right-hander went 6-3 with a 3.29 ERA (65.2 IP, 24 ER) in 11 starts for the Halos in 2020 and finished ninth in the American League Cy Young Award voting that season.

In seven career major league seasons with Baltimore (2012, 2016-19) and Los Angeles-AL (2020-21), Bundy has gone 46-57 with three complete games, one shutout, a 4.72 ERA (770.2 IP, 404 ER), 257 walks, 758 strikeouts, a .253 opponent batting average and a 1.31 WHIP in 161 games (133 starts). Since 2017, his three complete games with at least 10 strikeouts are tied with Gerrit Cole and Corey Kluber for second most in the majors, trailing only Max Scherzer (5).

The Tulsa, Oklahoma native was originally selected by Baltimore in the first round (fourth overall) of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft out of Owasso (OK) High School. Bundy earned the win in the 2012 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game in Kansas City and was also named the Orioles’ Minor League Pitcher of the Year that season. He made his major league debut for Baltimore on September 23, 2012, went 10-6 in his first full big league season (2016) and was a 13-game winner for the Orioles in 2017.
