CHICAGO – Prior to tonight’s game vs. Kansas City, the Chicago White Sox announced the following three roster moves:
- Added to 26-player active roster (1): INF Miguel Vargas;
- Recalled from Class AAA Charlotte (1): INF Lenyn Sosa;
- Contract selected from Class AAA Charlotte (1): LHP Fraser Ellard.
Vargas, 24, was acquired from the Los Angeles Dodgers yesterday as part of a three-team trade also involving St. Louis. He hit .239/.313/.423 (17-71) with four doubles, three home runs, nine RBI, 11 runs scored and eight walks in 30 games with the Dodgers this season. Vargas also has appeared in 41 games with Class AAA Oklahoma City, hitting .290/.440/.566 (42-145) with 14 doubles, eight homers, 38 RBI, 38 walks and a 1.006 OPS.
Sosa, 24, is slashing .237/.274/.350 (42-177) with eight doubles, four home runs, 15 RBI, 13 runs scored and three stolen bases in 52 games over two stints with the White Sox this season. He is batting .275 (28-102) with eight doubles, six homers, 18 RBI and an .859 OPS in 24 games with the Knights in 2024.
Ellard, 26, is 2-3 with a 3.76 ERA (17 ER/40.2 IP), .227 (34-150) opponents average, three saves and 59 strikeouts (13.05 per 9.0 IP) over 38 relief appearances with Charlotte this season. He has allowed just five earned runs on 11 hits with 26 strikeouts in 19.1 IP over his last 18 appearances since June 1. The 6-foot-3, 220-pound Ellard has limited opponents to a .158 (6-38) average with RISP this season.
Ellard is 8-5 with a 4.53 ERA (70 ER/139.0 IP), nine saves and 174 strikeouts (11.26 per 9.0 IP) in 120 career appearances over four seasons (2021-24) in the White Sox system. He originally was selected by Chicago in the eighth round of the 2021 First-Year Player Draft out of Liberty University.
