White Sox place Andrew Vaughn on injured list; recall Gavin Sheets from Class AAA Charlotte
CHICAGO – Prior to tonight’s series opener vs. Detroit, the Chicago White Sox placed rookie outfielder Andrew Vaughn on the injured list and recalled infielder/outfielder Gavin Sheets from Class AAA Charlotte.
Sheets, 25, is batting .319/.360/.500 (30-94) with five doubles, four home runs, 20 RBI and 11 runs scored over 23 games with the Knights this season. Sheets, 6-foot-5 and 230 pounds, has played in 14 games at first base, nine in right field and one in left.
“In compliance with MLB’s existing COVID-19 protocols, Andrew Vaughn has been placed on the injured list,” said Rick Hahn, White Sox senior vice president/general manager. “Andrew is currently asymptomatic and our hope is that, similar to our other IL placements of this nature, he will return shortly to the active roster. At this time, no other players on the roster are impacted.”
Sheets, who bats and throws left-handed, was selected by the White Sox in the second round of the 2017 draft out of Wake Forest University. He is a career .283/.358/.415 (339-1,199) hitter with 30 home runs, 192 RBI and 144 runs scored in 324 games over four minor-league seasons.
Sheets, the son of former major-league Larry Sheets, has no major-league experience. He will wear uniform No. 32.
Vaughn, 23, is hitting .226 (31-137) with 11 doubles, four home runs, 12 RBI and 19 runs scored over 43 games in 2021.
