Yankees acquire a player to be named later or cash considerations from Boston

The New York Yankees announced today that they have acquired a player to be named later or cash considerations from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for RHP Adam Ottavino and RHP Frank German.

Ottavino, 35, went 2-3 with a 5.89 ERA (18.1IP, 12ER) and 25K in a team-high 24 relief appearances with the Yankees in 2020. The New York, N.Y., native went 8-8 with two saves, a 2.76 ERA (84.2IP, 26ER) and 113K in 97 relief appearances over two seasons with the Yankees (2019-20) after signing with the team to a three-year contract extending through the 2021 season on January 24, 2019. In 463 career games (three starts) over parts of 10 Major League seasons with St. Louis (2010), Colorado (2012-18) and the Yankees (2019-20), he is 25-28 with 19 saves, a 3.53 ERA (497.2IP, 195ER) and 577K.

German, 23, was 5-8 with a 3.56 ERA (111.1IP, 44ER) and 128K in 30 games (23 starts) over two minor league seasons with the Yankees (2018-19). He did not play in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Queens, N.Y., native was originally selected by the Yankees in the fourth round of the 2018 First-Year Player Draft.
