Rangers agree to terms with four players on 2017 contracts

Texas has three remaining players eligible for salary arbitration.

January 13th, 2017

The Texas Rangers today announced that the club has agreed to terms with catcher Robinson Chirinos and right-handed pitchers Sam Dyson, A.J. Griffin, and Tanner Scheppers on one-year contracts for the 2017 season.  No further terms were disclosed.
All four players had been eligible for salary arbitration.  With these agreements, the Rangers now have three remaining players eligible for salary arbitration: left-handed pitcher Jake Diekman, right-handed pitcher Jeremy Jeffress, and infielder Jurickson Profar.
Chirinos was the club's Opening Day catcher, but missed two months last season with a right forearm fracture. Dyson ranked among American League leaders with 73 appearances (2nd) and 38 saves (3rd) in 2016. Griffin finished third among Texas pitchers with 23 starts and 119.0 innings last year. Scheppers was sidelined for most of 2016 after left knee surgery in February, but he made 10 relief appearances with the Rangers at the end of the season.
