July 1st, 2019

Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers today announced that outfielder/designated hitter Hunter Pence and catcher Isiah Kiner-Falefa will both begin injury rehabilitation assignments on Monday night. Pence will start for Frisco in the RoughRiders’ 7:05 p.m. CT home contest tonight against the Corpus Christi Hooks. Kiner-Falefa will play for the Nashville Sounds in a 7:05 p.m. CT home game against Oklahoma City.

Pence was selected by fans last week as the starting designated hitter for the American League in the 2019 Major League Baseball All-Star Game, which is scheduled for July 9 in Cleveland. It is his fourth career selection and it would mark his first-ever start in an All-Star contest. Pence was placed on the 10-day injured list on June 17 with a right groin strain, and he is eligible to be activated by the Rangers at any point. He has batted .294 with 15 HR and 48 RBI in 55 games for Texas this season.

Kiner-Falefa was placed on the 10-day injured list on June 7 with a right middle finger ligament sprain. He has batted .231 with one home run and 13 RBI over 38 games with Texas this season. Kiner-Falefa and Jeff Mathis had been the only catchers to appear for the Rangers this season prior to this current stay on the injured list.
