Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers announced prior to today’s game that the club has placed outfielder Willie Calhoun on the 10-day injured list with a left quad strain. To take his place on the active roster, the team has recalled outfielder Delino DeShields from Triple-A Nashville.

Calhoun left last night’s game against Seattle after six innings with the quad injury and was examined again this morning. He batted .435 (10-23) with 2 home runs, a double, and 7 RBI over 6 games/5 starts after being recalled from Nashville May 15. Calhoun has reached safely via hit or walk in all 6 games with Texas. The first date he would be eligible to return is June 1.

DeShields has played in 9 games with Nashville since being optioned by the Rangers following a Texas win on May 8 at Pittsburgh. He has produced a slash line of .211/.318/.421/.739 (8-38) for the Sounds, hitting 2 home runs with 8 RBI and 6 walks/12 strikeouts. DeShields has batted .182 (16-88) with one home run and 10 RBI over 30 games with the Rangers this season, all spanning his first stint with the club from Opening Day-May 8. He has gone 8-for-9 in steal attempts with Texas, and his 8 stolen bases rank tied for 7th-most in the American League.

Following today’s transactions, the Rangers remain at the 40-man limit on the major league roster, along with four players on the 60-day injured list: RHP Luke Farrell, OF Scott Heineman, LHP Yohander Méndez, and RHP Edinson Vólquez.
