The Texas Rangers announced Friday that the club has signed free agent right-handed pitcher Jason Hammel to a minor league contract with an invitation to major league spring training camp. Additionally, outfielder John Andreoli was acquired by the San Francisco Giants in a waiver claim.

The 36-year-old Hammel has spent the past two seasons with the Royals, going 4-14 with a 6.02 ERA in 39 games/18 starts in 2018. The veteran has been primarily a starter in his major league career, but finished last season in the Kansas City bullpen. He has appeared in the postseason in four different years, and was a member of the rotation for the Cubs' 2016 World Series championship team. Hammel has a career 96-114 record with a 4.62 ERA over 377 games/298 starts in his major league career with Tampa Bay (2006-08), Colorado (2009-11), Baltimore (2012-13), Chicago-NL (2014, 2015-16), Oakland (2014), and Kansas City (2017-18).

Andreoli was designated for assignment on Tuesday night when the Rangers officially signed right-handed pitcher Shawn Kelley. Andreoli was acquired from Seattle in a January 15 waiver claim after playing 26 games with the Mariners and Orioles in 2018, his first major league action.

With today's transactions, the Rangers have 63 players on the club's spring training roster: a full 40-man major league roster, along with 23 non-roster invitees.
