Rays open three-team, nine-game homestand

Highlights include Ryne Stanek bottle opener and Daniel Robertson wristbands

The Tampa Bay Rays return to Tropicana Field tomorrow for a three-team, nine-game homestand against the Baltimore Orioles (April 16-18), Boston Red Sox (April 19-21) and Kansas City Royals (April 22-24). The 2019 Rays season is presented by Tampa General Hospital.

Tuesday, April 16 vs. Baltimore Orioles

First Pitch: 7:10 p.m.

Gates Open: 5:40 p.m.

Jackie Robinson Day: The Rays will commemorate the 72nd anniversary of Jackie Robinson breaking baseball’s color barrier in 1947 with all players and on-field personnel wearing specially-designed “42” T-shirts during batting practice and Robinson’s iconic uniform “No. 42” on their jerseys. The game-worn No. 42 jerseys and caps will be available for auction at raysbaseball.com/auctions, with proceeds benefiting the Jackie Robinson Foundation.

Tuesday’s Champion: Before every Tuesday home game, the Rays host a youngster from the Make-A-Wish Foundation or Children’s Dream Fund as a part of the “Tuesday’s Champion” program presented by RIPA & Associates. The Rays will host 17-year-old Jasmine Tabares from Make-A-Wish. As part of her special day, Jasmine will meet Rays players and coaches during batting practice and throw a ceremonial first pitch.

“Beaches, Benches and Boycotts:” An original exhibit of the Florida Holocaust Museum, “Beaches, Benches and Boycotts” will be on display at Tropicana Field during the homestand at Gate 5. The exhibit illuminates Tampa Bay’s struggle with racial equality and shines a light on the local leaders who changed the region after the Brown vs. Board of Education decision and the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Bats N’ Brews: The Rays and iHeartMedia Tampa Bay’s “Bats N’ Brews” radio show, presented by Budweiser, airs live from the Budweiser Porch in center field and features Queen B from 95.7 The Beat (WBTP).

The Rays Artist Print Series: In partnership with Creative Pinellas, an arts agency working to facilitate a vibrant and sustainable arts community, the Rays crafted an opportunity for artists in Tampa Bay to design prints that celebrate the hometown baseball team and honor the unique culture of the region. Each artist selected was invited to create a piece that represents her or his own style and interpretation of the Rays brand. The first of seven prints will launch on April 19 and be available for a limited time for $30 at the Rays Republic Team Store. Designed by international multimedia artist and St. Petersburg resident Zulu Painter, the print depicts a young man dreaming of his potential future as a ballplayer. MLBPAA Legends for Youth Clinic: The Rays RBI Tampa and Burg Baseball teams will participate in a free Legends for Youth Clinic presented by the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association, where former major league players will teach the fundamentals of the game, from 9 a.m.–12 p.m. at Tropicana Field.

Write Field Program: Rays outfielder Tommy Pham will speak to a group of students from the Poynter Institute’s Write Field program at approximately 2:30 p.m. Write Field is a dynamic program designed to improve the academic performance and life of African-American and Hispanic boys by teaching them writing, public speaking and critical thinking skills.

Devil Rays Day: The Rays will wear their Majestic Athletic white alternate throwback Devil Rays jerseys and navy blue New Era retro caps, which debuted during last year’s 20th anniversary celebration season. This will be the first of five dates the Rays wear the throwback jerseys and caps.

Jackie Robinson Day: The Rays will recognize community members who exemplify Jackie Robinson’s nine core values—courage, determination, teamwork, persistence, integrity, citizenship, justice, commitment and excellence—with the Breaking Barriers Community Leader Award in a pregame ceremony.

Sunday, April 21 vs. Boston Red Sox

For the Kids: Sundays are Family Fun Days, courtesy of Tampa General Hospital. For the sixth consecutive season, concourse activities will be complimentary for kids 14 years and under on Sundays.
