Red Sox acquire right-handed pitcher Dylan Covey from Tampa Bay Rays

BOSTON, MA -- The Boston Red Sox today acquired right-handed pitcher Dylan Covey from the Tampa Bay Rays. He has been added to the Club Player Pool.

Red Sox Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom made the announcement.

In addition, left-handed pitcher Bobby Poyner has been removed from the Club Player Pool but remains in the organization.

The Red Sox’ Club Player Pool is now at 59.

Covey (COE-vee), 28, has made 63 major league appearances (45 starts) in his career, all for the Chicago White Sox from 2017-19. He made Chicago’s Opening Day roster in 2017 and 2019, and in his three seasons has gone 6-29 with a 6.54 ERA (182 ER/250.1 IP). In his Triple-A career, the right-hander is 5-2 with a 2.63 ERA (28 ER/95.2 IP) in 22 outings (18 starts). A California native, Covey was selected by the Oakland Athletics in the fourth round of the 2013 June Draft out of the University of San Diego.
