Red Sox add second baseman Ian Kinsler to active 25-man roster

The Boston Red Sox today added second baseman Ian Kinsler to the active 25-man roster.

The Boston Red Sox today added second baseman Ian Kinsler to the active 25-man roster. He will wear number 5. To make room on the roster, the club optioned infielder Tzu-Wei Lin to Triple-A Pawtucket. 
President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski made the announcement.
Kinsler, 36, has hit .239 (85-for-355) with 20 doubles, 13 home runs, and nine stolen bases in 91 games for the Angels this season. In 51 games since May 29, the right-handed batter has hit .286 (57-for-199) with an .866 OPS, including .417 (20-for-48) with a 1.137 OPS in his last 13 games. He won the American League's Rawlings Gold Glove Award for second base in 2016 and was once again a finalist for the award in 2017. Selected by Texas in the 17th round of the 2003 June Draft, Kinsler has been named to four American League All-Star teams (2008, '10, '12, '14) and has finished in the top 30 in MVP voting four times, including an 11th-place showing in 2011. 
Lin, 24, has gone 8-for-44 (.182) with two doubles in 20 games over four stints with Boston this season. He has also hit .315 (62-for-197) with five home runs in 49 games for Pawtucket, including .356 (53-for-149) in his last 36 games. The left-handed batter has hit safely in 30 of his last 31 games with the PawSox, including each of his last 14. Signed by Boston in 2012 as an international free agent, the Taiwanese native has hit .226 (21-for-93) in 42 major league games since his 2017 debut, making 14 starts at shortstop, six at third base, and five at second base.
