BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today selected right-handed pitcher Seth Martinez to the active Major League roster from Triple-A Worcester. He will wear number 51. To make room, Boston optioned left-handed pitcher Raymond Burgos to Triple-A Worcester after yesterday’s game against the Athletics.

The Red Sox’ 40-man roster is now at 40.

Martinez, 31, has posted a 5.55 ERA (37 ER/60.0 IP) with 49 strikeouts in 33 games (nine starts) for Worcester this season. The right-hander signed with Boston as a minor league free agent on January 8 and made seven Grapefruit League appearances as a non-roster invitee. He pitched in six Major league games for the Miami Marlins in 2025, allowing four runs over 6.2 innings. Originally selected by the Athletics in the 17th round of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft, the Arizona native owns a 4.00 ERA (64 ER/144.0 IP) with 126 strikeouts in 117 career Major League games with the Houston Astros (2021-24) and Marlins (2025).

Burgos, 27, tossed the final 3.0 innings in each of the Red Sox’ last two games, earning his first career save on Friday against the Athletics. The left-hander has also pitched in 15 games (14 starts) for Worcester this season, recording a 5.63 ERA (40 ER/64.0 IP) with 52 strikeouts. Originally selected by Cleveland in the 18th round of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft, the Puerto Rico native owns a 3.86 ERA (3 ER/7.0 IP) in three career Major League games with the San Francisco Giants (2024) and Red Sox (2026).
