BOSTON, MA – The Boston Red Sox today signed four players selected in the 2019 MLB First-Year Player Draft: left-handed pitcher Chris Murphy (6th round), right-handed pitchers Cody Scroggins (9th round) and Reed Harrington (20th round), and shortstop Daniel Bakst (28th round).
In addition, the Red Sox signed two non-drafted free agents: right-handed pitcher Mason Duke out of the University of Tampa, and right-handed pitcher Casey Sutherland out of Davidson College.
Vice President of Amateur Scouting Mike Rikard made the announcement.
Murphy and Scroggins will report to short-season Single-A Lowell. The other four signees will report to the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League Red Sox.
In all, 20 of the 40 players selected by Boston in the 2019 MLB First-Year Player Draft have been signed to contracts, including each of the club’s top three picks and eight of the top 10.
