COLORADO ROCKIES ACQUIRE RIGHT-HANDED PITCHER JOE HARVEY FROM NEW YORK YANKEES IN EXCHANGE FOR LEFT-HANDED PITCHER ALFREDO GARCIA

Left-handed pitcher Harrison Musgrave designated for assignment

The Colorado Rockies announced today that they acquired right-handed pitcher Joe Harvey from the New York Yankees in exchange for Minor League left-hander Alfredo Garcia. To make room for Harvey on the 40-man roster, the Rockies have designated left-handed pitcher Harrison Musgrave for assignment.

  • Harvey, 27, made his Major League debut for the Yankees on April 10 at Houston, pitching two scoreless innings with one hit and one walk allowed with three strikeouts … in nine appearances for the Yankees this season, is 1-0 with a 4.50 ERA (10.0 IP, 5 ER), seven walks and 11 strikeouts … in 22 games this season for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, is 0-1 with a 3.12 ERA (26.0 IP, 9 ER), 15 walks and 38 strikeouts … was originally selected by the Yankees in the 19th round of the 2014 First-Year Player Draft, and has gone 5-7 with a 1.96 ERA (170.0 IP, 37 ER), 65 walks and 194 strikeouts across parts of six Minor League seasons.
  • Garcia, 20, has combined to go 3-10 with a 6.00 ERA (105.0 IP, 70 ER), 45 walks and 123 strikeouts between Low-A Asheville (19 starts) and Short-Season Boise (three starts) this season … originally signed by the Rockies as a non-drafted international free agent on July 2, 2016, the Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela, native has gone 7-18 with a 4.85 ERA (200.1 IP, 108 ER), 74 walks and 191 strikeouts across 42 Minor League appearances (38 starts) over parts of three Minor League seasons in the Rockies organization.
  • Musgrave, 27, went 0-0 with a 3.60 ERA (10.0 IP, 4 ER), seven walks and 12 strikeouts in 10 appearances for the Rockies this season … was placed on the 10-day injured list on May 4 with a left elbow flexor strain, and was transferred to the 60-day IL prior to being reinstated and sent to Triple-A Albuquerque on July 17 … over parts of two seasons with the Rockies, went 2-3 with a 4.45 ERA (54.2 IP, 27 ER), 29 walks and 44 strikeouts.

The Rockies currently have a full 40-man roster.
