Rockies reinstate Murphy, option Hoffman

DENVER – The Colorado Rockies announced today that they have reinstated infielder Daniel Murphy from the 10-day injured list (avulsion fracture, left index finger), and have optioned right-handed pitcher Jeff Hoffman to Triple-A Albuquerque.

Murphy, 34, started at first base in the first two games of the season, going 1-for-10 with one run scored before being placed on the 10-day injured list with an avulsion fracture of the left index finger … made a rehab appearance with Triple-A Albuquerque and went 2-for-13 (.154) with one double and three walks over three games with the Isotopes … signed a two-year deal with the Rockies on Dec. 21, 2018 … appeared in 91 games between Washington and Chicago-NL in 2018, batting .299 (98-for-328) with 15 doubles, 12 home runs and 42 RBI … the three-time All-Star and two-time Silver Slugger has batted .299 (1422-for-4757) with 645 runs, 333 doubles, 28 triples, 122 home runs, 641 RBI, 325 walks and 67 stolen bases in 1282 career games across parts of 11 seasons with New York-NL (2008-15), Washington (2016-18), Chicago-NL (2018) and Colorado (2019). Hoffman, 26, made his first Major League start of the season yesterday against Washington … since making his Major League debut in 2016, has gone 6-10 with a 5.92 ERA (144.1 IP, 95 ER), 64 walks and 115 strikeouts across 38 career appearances, 24 starts … originally selected in the first round (ninth overall) of the 2014 First-Year Player Draft by Toronto, he was acquired by the Rockies July 27, 2015 along with RHP Miguel Castro, INF Jose Reyes and RHP Jesus Tinoco in exchange for RHP LaTroy Hawkins and SS Troy Tulowitzki.
