The Pirates have placed outfielder Gregory Polanco on the 10-day disabled list with a left hamstring strain.
LHP Steven Brault (#43) has been recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis.
The 25-year-old Brault has gone 8-4 with a 2.06 ERA in 18 games (17 starts) with Indy this season. He was named to the International League mid-season All-Star team and currently leads the circuit in ERA while ranking fourth in WHIP (1.13) and eighth in innings pitched (100.1).
He made his last appearance on Monday, throwing 95 pitches while giving up two runs in 6.0 innings of work in a victory at Durham. Brault has been charged with two earned runs or less in each of last 13 Triple-A appearances (12 starts).
Brault went 5-0 with a 1.32 ERA (34.0ip/5er) in six games (five starts) during the month of June and has gone 8-1 with a 1.45 ERA (74.2ip/12er) in his last 13 Triple-A games, dating back to his start on May 6.
In eight big league games (seven starts) with the Pirates last season, Brault went 0-3 with a 4.86 ERA (33.1ip/18er). He made his Major League debut on July 5 in St. Louis and made his lone relief appearance with the Bucs on September 26 vs. Chicago (1.2ip/7r/3er).
