David Hogg II selected to compete in States Play Tournament

Texas Rangers Youth Academy athlete David Hogg II was selected to participate in Major League Baseball and USA Baseball’s States Play tournament from Sept. 23-25.

States Play is a premier high school baseball tournament that brings together top rising high school seniors and select rising juniors to compete in an East vs. West tournament. Taking place at the Salt River Fields in Scottsdale, Ariz., the three-day tournament will begin with game one tonight at 8:30 p.m. CT.

The tournament will see 41 of the country’s top athletes compete, most of whom are verbally committed to some of the nation’s top collegiate baseball programs. Hogg, a Louisiana State University commit, will round out the roster for the West team at shortstop. Hogg and his teammates will be managed by former MLB infielder and 2019 World Series Champion Howie Kendrick.

Game 2 of the States Play tournament will be played at Chase Field, home of the Arizona Diamondbacks, at 11 a.m. CT on Saturday, Sept. 24, and the third and final game will take place at the Salt River Fields at Talking Stick at 11:30 a.m. CT on Sunday, Sept. 25. Both games will be available to watch via live stream on MLB.com.

Hogg is the first Texas Rangers Youth Academy athlete invited to participate in the States Play tournament since its inception in 2018.

The inaugural States Play tournament, held at the former Globe Life Park, now Choctaw Stadium, saw top athletes from Texas and California compete. Colleyville, Texas native and Kansas City Royals rookie Bobby Witt Jr., led his “Lonestar” team to victory in that 2018 match-up
