Tigers acquire INF Hao-Yu Lee from Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for RHP Michael Lorenzen

The Detroit Tigers announced that they have acquired infielder Hao-Yu Lee from the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for righthanded pitcher Michael Lorenzen.

Lee, 20, has spent most of the 2023 season with Single A Jersey Shore, hitting .283/.372/.401 with 12 doubles, one triple, five home runs and 26 RBI in 64 games. Lee, who is ranked as the No. 5 prospect in the Phillies organization by MLB Pipeline, currently ranks ninth in the South Atlantic League in batting average. At 20 years, 179 days old, Lee is 2.3 years younger than the average hitter in the South Atlantic League this year.

In three seasons of professional baseball, Lee has hit .285/.379/.432 with 30 doubles, five triples, 15 home runs and 87 RBI. He was named to the Florida State League postseason All-Star Team in 2022 and was also named a Low Class A All-Star by Baseball America.

A native of New Taipei, Taiwan, Lee was originally signed by the Phillies as an international free agent on June 15, 2021.

Lorenzen, 31, has started 18 games with the Tigers this season, compiling a 5-7 record with a 3.58 ERA (105.2IP/42ER) and 83 strikeouts. He was a member of the American League All-Star Team this season, his first career All-Star Game appearance.
