Tigers return home for Opening Day and first homestand of 2019 at Comerica Park
Fans encouraged to enter ballpark early on Thursday, April 4; Gates open at special time of 10 a.m.
The Tigers enter their 20th season at Comerica Park and open their 2019 home schedule on Thursday, April 4 against the Kansas City Royals at 1:10 p.m. The club’s first homestand includes six games, with three against each the Royals (April 4, 6-7) and the Cleveland Indians (April 9-11).
Opening Day festivities begin 30 minutes prior to the 1:10 p.m. first pitch on Thursday, while gates open at 10:00 a.m. and fans are invited to arrive early to enjoy live music in select areas throughout Comerica Park. Additional Opening Day activities can be found throughout The District Detroit and the downtown area, including the Jack Daniel’s Opening Day Party at Little Caesars Arena and pop-up event on the patio space of the new Tin Roof location directly across from Comerica Park.
Thursday, April 4 vs. Kansas City Royals – First pitch 1:10 p.m. / Gates open 10:00 a.m.
-- Honor Guard - 127th Wing Air Force Honor Guard based at Selfridge Air National Guard Base.
-- Military Flyover - Four A-10 Thunderbolt II “Warthog” attack aircraft from the 107th Fighter Squadron and part of the 127th Wing located at Selfridge Air National Guard Base.
-- National Anthem - in celebration of the 60th anniversary of Motown Records, Grammy Award nominated and original member of the Supremes, Mary Wilson.
-- Ceremonial First Pitch - 1984 World Series Champion, Cy Young Award winner and World Series MVP, Guillermo “Willie” Hernandez.
-- Game ball – will be delivered by Brigadier General John D. Slocum, the Commander, 127th Wing, Selfridge ANGB, Michigan.
Saturday, April 6 vs. Kansas City Royals – First pitch 1:10 p.m. / Gates open 11:30 a.m.
