Twins Make Roster Moves

The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Bartolo Colón from Triple-A Rochester.

The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Bartolo Colón from Triple-A Rochester. Additionally, they have returned left-handed pitcher Craig Breslow from his rehab assignment and have reinstated him from the 10-day disabled list. To make room on the 40-man and 25-man rosters for Colón, the Twins have placed right-handed pitcher Phil Hughes on the 60-day disabled list with reoccurrence of symptoms of thoracic outlet syndrome. To make room for Breslow on the 25-man roster, the Twins have optioned first baseman Kennys Vargas to Triple-A Rochester.
              
Colón, 44, will make his first start as a member of the Twins tonight against the Yankees. The right-hander has a career record of 235-170 with a 4.02 ERA (3235.1 IP, 1444 ER), 908 walks and 2,407 strikeouts. He will be making his first career start and appearance at Target Field, the 45th ballpark of his career. He will wear uniform number 40.
Breslow, who missed the Twins last 17 games with left thoracic rib soreness, has appeared in 27 games for the Twins this season, going 1-1 with a 5.28 ERA (29.0 IP, 17 ER), 10 walks and 18 strikeouts.
Vargas has hit .244 (43-for-176) with eight home runs and 30 RBI in 50 games for the Twins this season. Hughes made 14 appearances (9 starts) for the Twins this season going 4-3 with a 5.87 ERA (53.2 IP, 35 ER).
