MINNEAPOLIS-ST. PAUL, MN – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have recalled right-handed pitcher Garrett Acton from Triple-A St. Paul and have selected the contract of infielder Ben Ross from St. Paul.
Acton, 28, went 1-1 with a 2.70 ERA (6.2 IP, 2 ER) in four games for the Twins earlier this season, from April 9-25, before being placed on the Injured List with a right shoulder strain on April 28. Since being optioned to St. Paul to start August, he has gone 1-0 with a 3.09 ERA (11.2 IP, 4 ER), seven walks, 15 strikeouts and a .167 opponent batting average in nine games for the Saints. Acton was originally acquired by the Twins in a trade with the Miami Marlins on April 2.
Ross, 25, has played in 102 games for the Saints this season, hitting .249 (88-for-354) with 23 doubles, three triples, 15 home runs, 55 RBI, 56 runs scored, 56 walks, 12 stolen bases, a .353 on-base percentage and an .811 OPS. In 118 games between the Saints and Double-A Wichita this season, he has set single-season career-highs in home runs (20), doubles (30), RBI (71), runs scored (71) and walks (68). Ross leads all Twins minor leaguers in doubles and is tied for third in RBI. The Springfield, Ohio native was selected by the Twins in the fifth round of the 2022 First-Year Player Draft out of Notre Dame College in South Euclid, Ohio. He will be in uniform for tonight’s game against the Detroit Tigers at Target Field, wearing number one and looking to make his major league debut.
To make room for Ross on the 40-man roster, the Twins have designated outfielder Kyler Fedko for release or assignment. Fedko played in 14 games for the Twins from June 15-July 8, going 0-for-16 with one RBI and two walks.
