The 6-foot-4, 195-pound Cordell, who has been on the seven-day disabled list since June 30 (retroactive to June 27) with a strained back, has reached base safely in 13 of his last 16 games, hitting .300 (13-16) with three doubles, three triples, three home runs and 13 RBI.
The right-handed hitting Cordell, who is rated by MLB.com as the No.17 prospect in the Brewers organization, is a career .276 (481-1,741) hitter with 90 doubles, 24 triples, 65 homers, 272 RBI, 301 runs scored, 81 stolen bases, a .339 on-base percentage and .468 slugging percentage in 452 games over five minor-league seasons (2013-17) between the Texas and Milwaukee systems.
The San Diego, Calif. native was acquired by the Brewers on September 5, 2016 as the player-to-be-named-later to complete a five-player trade on August 1, 2016 which sent catcher Jonathan Lucroy and right-hander Jeremy Jeffress to the Rangers. Cordell was originally drafted by Texas in the 11th round of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft out of Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va.
Swarzak, 31, is 4-3 with a 2.23 ERA (12 ER/48.1 IP), one save, 10 holds, 52 strikeouts and a .216 (37-171) opponents average in 41 games this season, his first with the White Sox after being signed as a minor-league free agent on January 20, 2017.
