White Sox complete 2020 Major League Baseball Draft

The Chicago White Sox have completed the 2020 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft after selecting right-handed pitchers Jared Kelley (Refugio High School) in the second round, Adisyn Coffey (Wabash Valley College) in the third, Kade Mechals (Grand Canyon University) in the fourth and left-handed pitcher Bailey Horn (Auburn University) in the fifth.

Kelley, 18, was named the 2019-2020 National Gatorade Player of the Year for baseball after not allowing a hit and striking out 34 batters over 12.0 scoreless IP. The Refugio, Texas native posted a 0.22 ERA and 144 strikeouts over 65.0 IP as a junior. Kelley, 6-foot-2 and 215 pounds, entered the draft rated by MLBPipeline.com as the No. 12 overall, No. 3 high school and No. 4 right-handed pitching prospect.

Coffey, 21, made four appearances on the mound with Wabash Valley in 2020, striking out five batters with one save over 3.1 IP in relief. The Muncie, Ind. native also hit .286 (4-14) with a double and two RBI over eight games. Coffey, 6-foot-2 and 195 pounds, is a 2017 graduate of Delta High School.

Mechals, 22, made three starts with GCU in 2020, going 1-1 with a 2.35 ERA (4 ER/15.1 IP) and 18 strikeouts. The McMinnville, Ore. native was named First Team All-WAC in 2019 after posting an 11-1 record with a 2.16 ERA (22 ER/91.2 IP) and 100 strikeouts over 16 appearances (15 starts). Mechals, 5-foot-11 and 185 pounds, went 14-3 with a 2.08 ERA (30 ER/129.2 IP) and 155 strikeouts over three NCAA seasons between GCU (2019-20) and Western Oregon University (2017). He played his 2018 season at Skagit Valley College in Mount Vernon, Wash.

Horn, 22, went 3-1 with a 2.08 ERA (4 ER/17.1 IP) and 27 strikeouts over four starts with Auburn in 2020. The Waco, Texas native appeared in 18 games (five starts) with the Tigers in 2019, striking out 31 batters over 37.2 IP. Prior to Auburn, the 6-foot-2, 210-pound Horn played one season at McLennan Community College in Waco, Texas, posting a 7-0 record with a 3.86 ERA and 77 strikeouts over 77.0 IP. 

The White Sox yesterday selected left-handed pitcher Garrett Crochet (CROW-shay) from the University of Tennessee with the team's first round pick (11th overall).
