Prior to today's doubleheader vs. Detroit, the Chicago White Sox placed infielder Tyler Saladino on the 10-day disabled list with back spasms and recalled outfielder Adam Engel from Class AAA Charlotte.
Engel, 25, is batting .221 (33-149) with 10 doubles, eight home runs, 17 RBI, 18 runs scored and a .463 slugging percentage over 42 games this season with Charlotte. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound Engel, who is tied for eighth in the International League in home runs, hit .284 (21-74) over his last 21 games with the Knights. He made 29 starts in center field and 13 in left.
A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Engel entered the season ranked by MLB.com as the No. 12 Prospect in the White Sox organization and by Baseball America as the Best Defensive Outfielder in the Sox system.
Engel, who will wear uniform No. 41, has no major-league experience.
Saladino, 27, is batting .200 (22-110) with no home runs, four RBI and 10 runs scored over 30 games with the White Sox this season.
