Yankees acquire Minor League RHPs Juan De Paula, Jio Orozco from Seattle

The New York Yankees today announced that they have acquired right-handed pitchers Juan De Paula and Jio Orozco from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for outfielder Ben Gamel.

The New York Yankees today announced that they have acquired right-handed pitchers Juan De Paula and Jio Orozco from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for outfielder Ben Gamel.
 
De Paula, 18, was 1-2 with a 3.07 ERA (41.0IP, 41H, 14ER, 11BB, 53K, 2HR) in 11 games (seven starts) with the Rookie-level Arizona League Mariners in 2016. Originally signed as a non-drafted free agent on July 2, 2014, the 6-foot-3, 165-lb. De Paula is in his second minor league season after pitching in the Dominican Summer League in 2015. Overall, the Santo Domingo, D.R., native has a 6-6 minor league record with a 2.58 ERA (118.2IP, 103H, 34ER, 26BB, 121K, .231 opp. avg.) in 25 games (21 starts).
 
Orozco, 19, was 2-2 with a 4.07 ERA (48.2IP, 46H, 22ER, 16BB, 63K, 3HR, .236 opp. avg.) in 12 games (five starts) with the Rookie-level Arizona League Mariners in 2016. Originally drafted in the 14th round of the 2015 First-Year Player Draft, the 6-foot-1-inch, 210-lb. Tucson, Ariz., native has played both his minor league seasons with the AZL Mariners, posting a 5-3 overall record with a 3.73 ERA (70.0IP, 66H, 29ER, 20BB, 87K, 3HR, .240 opp. avg.) in 20 games (eight starts).
 
Gamel, 24, made his Major League debut with the Yankees in 2016, going 1-for-8 with 1R and 1BB in six games. He was named the International League MVP this season after hitting .308 (149-for-483) with 80R, 26 doubles, 5 triples, 6HR, 51RBI, 43BB and 19SB in 116 games with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. In 660 games over seven minor league seasons, Gamel owns a .288 batting average (754-for-2,617) with 349R, 160 doubles, 32 triples, 26HR, 311RBI and 94SB. Gamel was originally selected by the Yankees in the 10th round of the 2010 First-Year Player Draft.
