Rangers add reliever Vincent on Minors deal

February 4th, 2021

The Rangers signed right-hander to a Minor League deal with an invitation to Spring Training, the club announced on Thursday.

The 34-year-old Vincent is heading into his 10th season in the big leagues, including stints with the Padres, Mariners, Giants and Phillies. Vincent pitched most recently for the Marlins in the shortened 2020 season.

Vincent signed with Miami at the start of Summer Camp and went on to play a big role for the club after a COVID-19 outbreak forced it to go deep into the depth chart. He made 21 appearances and did not allow a hit in seven of them, but he finished with a 4.43 ERA after giving up six runs in his final two outings. He lasted a combined 1 2/3 innings in those two games, and struggled to keep his velocity up.

This is the third pitcher the Rangers have added on Minor League deals this week. If Vincent makes the 40-man roster after Spring Training, he would add a veteran presence to a young pitching staff and can provide innings out of the bullpen.

With Vincent, the Rangers have a full 40-man roster and 25 non-roster invites.
