ARLINGTON -- The Rangers have added some depth to their bullpen by claiming right-handed pitcher Art Warren off waivers from the Mariners.

Warren, 27, spent most of the 2020 season at the Mariners' alternate training site in Tacoma, Wash. He was activated for one day with Seattle, but he did not pitch.

Warren pitched in six games for the Mariners in 2019, not allowing a run in 5 1/3 innings over six appearances. He gave up two hits while walking two and striking out five.

Most of Warren's 2019 campaign was spent at Double-A Arkansas. He pitched in 29 games there with a 1.71 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP while averaging 11.7 strikeouts per nine innings. He also had 15 saves in 17 opportunities.

Warren throws a 95+ mph fastball with a slider and curve mixed in. He was a 23rd-round Draft pick in 2015 out of Ashland University (Ohio) after recovering from Tommy John elbow reconstruction surgery. He found his spot as a reliever and rose through the Mariners' system to earn an invitation to the Arizona Fall League in '17.

Warren established himself as a legitimate prospect in the AFL by throwing 11 1/3 scoreless innings over nine appearances. He struck out 12 while allowing just five hits and four walks.

The move gives the Rangers 39 players on their 40-man roster.
