The Jackie Robinson Celebration Game is a nationally recognized minor league game held on April 15 at Holman Stadium to celebrate the achievements of Jackie Robinson. This regular season Florida State League Game has become a must-attend event for Treasure Coast baseball fans and community supporters. All ticket proceeds from the game benefit the United Way of Indian River County.
The St. Lucie Mets is the host team for the game, and fans from Indian River and surrounding counties look forward to the celebration. During the colorful pre-game ceremony, youth baseball and softball teams are dressed in their uniforms and together with their coaches can line the field. Special guests offer comments during pre-game about the importance of Jackie Robinson and his Dodger teammates, and how the Jackie Robinson Training Complex - Vero Beach played an important role in the Civil Rights Movement. In 2019, the Jackie Robinson Training Complex was named to the U.S. Civil Rights Trail, and is the only sports facility on the Trail.
In light of the national emergency brought on by the current coronavirus pandemic, as well as in response to the delay to the start of Minor League Baseball's 2020 Championship Season, the United Way of Indian River County has elected not to host the annual Jackie Robinson Celebration Game at the Jackie Robinson Training Complex on April 15th. Since the game is part of the St. Lucie Mets' home game schedule, the game would be played independent of the United Way at the Mets' Clover Park in Port St. Lucie should the Minor League Baseball season resume by April 15th.
