Twins claim catcher José Godoy from San Francisco

FORT MYERS, FL – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have claimed catcher José Godoy off waivers from the San Francisco Giants.

Godoy, who was claimed off waivers by the Giants from the Seattle Mariners earlier this week, played in 16 major league games for the Mariners last season, going 6-for-37 (.162) with one double, three RBI, two runs scored and three walks. The 27-year-old left-handed hitting catcher has played parts of nine minor league seasons in the St. Louis Cardinals and Mariners systems, hitting .276 (496-for-1796) with 87 doubles, four triples, 22 home runs, 252 RBI, 217 runs scored, 195 walks and a .357 on-base percentage in 534 games.

The Maracaibo, Venezuela native was originally signed by the Cardinals as an undrafted free agent on May 24, 2014. Godoy will report to Twins major league spring training and wear uniform number 60.

The Twins now have 40 players on their 40-man roster: 24 pitchers, three catchers, seven infielders and six outfielders.
