Outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong, the Mets’ No. 5 prospect according to MLB Pipeline, will undergo right shoulder surgery for a GLAD (glenoid labral articular disruption) lesion, the club announced Tuesday.

Crow-Armstrong underwent an MRI, which revealed a tear of the labrum as well as damage to the articular cartilage of the shoulder. Mets medical director Dr. David Altchek has confirmed the diagnosis, and the surgery will be performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache.

The Mets selected Crow-Armstrong with the 19th overall pick in the 2020 MLB Draft out of Harvard-Westlake High School, the same Los Angeles high school that produced first-rounders Jack Flaherty, Lucas Giolito and Max Fried.

The 19-year-old appeared in six games with Low-A St. Lucie this season, going 10-for-24 (.417) with two doubles and seven walks.

Crow-Armstrong will become the second prospect ranked among New York’s top five to undergo season-ending surgery in 2021. The Mets announced earlier this month that No. 3 prospect Matt Allan, a 20-year-old right-hander and the team's top pitching prospect, was slated to undergo Tommy John surgery.
