A's acquire IF/OF Chris Coghlan from the Cubs for RHP Aaron Brooks

The Oakland A's acquired infielder/outfielder Chris Coghlan from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for right-handed pitcher Aaron Brooks, the team announced today.

The Oakland A's acquired infielder/outfielder Chris Coghlan from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for right-handed pitcher Aaron Brooks, the team announced today.
 
Coghlan batted .250 with a career-high 16 home runs and 41 RBI for the Cubs last year. He also had bests in games (148), walks (58) and stolen bases (11). The 30-year-old left-handed hitter batted .264 with all 16 of his home runs against right-handed pitching compared to .116 against lefties. He appeared in 99 games in left field, 21 games in right field, 15 games at second base, five games at first base and three games at third base. Coghlan was selected by Florida in the first round (36th overall) of the 2006 draft. He made his Major League debut in 2009 and is a .268 career hitter with 46 home runs and 199 RBI in 666 games over seven seasons with the Marlins and Cubs.
 
Brooks was 3-4 with a 6.67 ERA in 13 games, including nine starts, for the A's and Royals last year. He was acquired by Oakland from Kansas City in the Ben Zobrist trade prior to the trading deadline in 2015. The 25-year-old also combined for a 7-5 record and 3.56 ERA in 20 games, 19 starts, between the Royals and A's Triple-A affiliates at Omaha and Nashville.
