Reds Announce Opening Day Festivities

Opening Day festivities include the Reds Community Fund charity block party and 97th Findlay Market Parade, featuring grand marshal Lou Piniella.

March 30th, 2016

11 a.m. to 3 p.m. - Reds Community Fund Charity Block Party
• The fifth annual official Opening Day Block Party kicks off at 11 a.m. on Joe Nuxhall Way, Freedom Way and Walnut Street
• Admission is free
• Food and beverages will be available for purchase from Anheuser Busch, Coca-Cola, LaRosa's and Queen City Sausage
• All proceeds benefit the P&G Cincinnati MLB Urban Youth Academy
• Live music from The Naked Karate Girls provided by WEBN 102.7 FM
• Additional block party partners include St. Elizabeth Healthcare, Sargento Natural Cheese, Werther's Original Caramel Popcorn, Budweiser and Ole Smoky Tennessee Moonshine
Noon - 97th Findlay Market Opening Day Parade
• Grand Marshal: Former Reds manager Lou Piniella will serve as the Findlay Market Opening Day Grand Marshal, with select current Reds scheduled to make an appearance
2:10 p.m. - Gates open to Great American Ball Park
• Ceremonial First Pitch: Lou Piniella will throw out the ceremonial first pitch
• Honorary Captain: Former Reds left fielder Greg Vaughn will serve as the game's Honorary Captain. Vaughn finished 4th in the National League MVP voting as a member of the 1999 Reds
• National Anthem: Marlana VanHoose from Denver, Ky. will sing the National Anthem. Marlana sang the National Anthem for Opening Day 2015 as well as the 2015 MLB Home Run Derby at Great American Ball Park
• Flyover: The pregame flyover will be performed by an E-2D Hawkeye belonging to the U.S. Navy VAW-120 "Greyhawks" Squadron from Naval Station Norfolk in Norfolk, Va. (first flyover from U.S. Armed Forces since 2012)
• Military Appreciation Ceremony: U.S. Rep. Brad Wenstrup (R-OH 2nd District) will participate in a pregame ceremony to honor veterans representing our Armed Forces
• American Flag: 100 local firefighters will hold a giant 150-foot by 300-foot American flag in the outfield during the National Anthem
• In Memoriam: Prior to the singing of the National Anthem, the Reds will pause to remember the lives of several members of the Reds family who passed away during the offseason, including long time scout and cross-checker Jeff Barton, former Negro Leagues player Charles "Whip" Davis, former Reds outfielder Eddie Milner, Reds Hall of Famer Jim O'Toole and longtime Reds clubhouse manager Bernie Stowe, as well as others. 
4:10 p.m. - 140th Opening Day game - Cincinnati Reds vs. Philadelphia Phillies
• Bernie Stowe Patch: All Reds players and coaches will wear a "Bernie Stowe" patch on the right sleeve of their jerseys during the 2016 season
• Scheduled Starting Pitchers: Reds RHP Raisel Iglesias vs. Phillies RHP Jeremy Hellickson
• God Bless America: "God Bless America" will be performed by The Mistics during the 7th inning stretch
