Marlins announce 2016 opening homestand festivities

The Miami Marlins today announced the promotions and festivities planned for the first homestand of the season. On Opening Night, April 5, Jeh C. Johnson, the United States Secretary of Homeland Security, will throw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to the start of the 7:10 p.m. game against Detroit.

The Miami Marlins today announced the promotions and festivities planned for the first homestand of the season. On Opening Night, April 5, Jeh C. Johnson, the United States Secretary of Homeland Security, will throw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to the start of the 7:10 p.m. game against Detroit. Secretary Johnson was sworn in on December 23, 2013 as the fourth Secretary of Homeland Security. Prior to joining DHS, he served as General Counsel for the Department of Defense, where he led the more than 10,000 military and civilian lawyers across the Department and co-authored the 250-page report that paved the way for the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" in 2010.
Miami-Dade Police Officer Henry Guzman will sing the national anthem on Opening Night as well as God Bless America during the seventh inning stretch. In addition, a flyover with two F-16's from Homestead Air Reserve Base will take place pregame. The presentation of colors will be done by Navy and Marine Corps Honor Guard from Navy Operational Support Center Miami, including the unveiling of a 150 x 300-foot American flag by the United States Southern Command. The Marlins will also recognize Dee Gordon for his stellar 2015 campaign prior to the game, presenting him his offseason awards. Fans should be in their seats by 6:30 p.m. for all pregame ceremonies. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m., with Wei-Yin Chen making the start for Miami.
 
Fans are strongly encouraged to arrive early as festivities will kick off at 3 p.m. at the West Plaza, with food trucks, live music and the Corona Beach House, and the parking garages also open at 3 p.m. All entrances will open at 5 p.m.; Fish Family Season Ticket Holders can enter early at 4:30 p.m. through the Third Base Entrance. The first 25,000 fans attending Opening Night will receive a Marlins 2016-17 Calendar courtesy of Waste Management. Fans are encouraged to purchase on-site parking in advance, and can visit Marlins.com/Parking to review parking and traffic information in advance. The Marlins will wrap up their first homestand on Wednesday, April 6 vs. Detroit at 4:55 p.m., with #JoséDay, celebrating José Fernández's first start of the season. Fans can take advantage of two special offers on Wednesday, Kids Eat Free Wednesday and the Chevron "Crazy 8's" ticket offer. As part of Kids Eat Free Wednesday, all kids, ages 12 and under, will receive a voucher at the ballpark entrance for a free Kayem beef frank, a bag of Frito Lay chips and a small Pepsi, redeemable at any Fan Feast or D' Town Favorites concession stand in the ballpark. With the Chevron "Crazy 8's" ticket offer, fans can score 50 percent off tickets by filling up at any participating South Florida Chevron station. Fans must present their registered receipt at the Marlins Park Ticket Office.
