The Phillies have acquired infielder/outfielder Jimmy Paredes from the Toronto Blue Jays for cash considerations, Vice President & General Manager Matt Klentak announced today. 
Paredes, 27, appeared in seven games with Toronto this season, batting .267 (4-15) with a double, home run and two RBI. He was claimed off waivers from the Baltimore Orioles on May 16, then designated for assignment by the Blue Jays on Monday (5/30). Prior to his time in Toronto, Paredes played at three different minor league levels this year and combined to hit .309 with a .377 OBP, five doubles, two home runs, nine RBI, three stolen bases and 11 runs in 19 games.
Last year, Paredes set career highs in games (104), hits (100), doubles (17), home runs (10), RBI (42), runs (46) and walks (19) with Baltimore. He also posted a 20-game on-base streak and a 12-game hitting streak in 2015. Over his six-year major league career, Paredes has a .257 batting average with 35 doubles, five triples, 16 home runs, 83 RBI, 19 stolen bases and 91 runs in 256 games between the Houston Astros (2011-13), Kansas City Royals (2014), Orioles (2014-15) and Blue Jays (2016). He was originally signed as an amateur free agent by the New York Yankees in July 2006 out of Bajos de Haina, Dominican Republic. 
To make room for Paredes on the 40-man roster, the Phillies transferred right-hander Charlie Morton to the 60-day DL.
