Kansas City Royals pitcher Yordano Ventura and Baltimore Orioles infielder Manny Machado have been disciplined for the on-field incident that occurred in the bottom of the fifth inning of Tuesday night's game at Oriole Park at Camden Yards, Major League Baseball announced today. Joe Garagiola, Jr., MLB's Senior Vice President of Standards & On-Field Operations, made the announcement.
Ventura has received a nine-game suspension for intentionally throwing at Machado and fighting. Machado has received a four-game suspension for charging the mound and fighting. Both players also received undisclosed fines for their roles in the bench-clearing incident.
Both suspensions had been scheduled to be in effect for each team's next game, with Machado's being tonight at Rogers Centre in Toronto and Ventura's being tomorrow at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago. However, both Ventura and Machado have elected to appeal. Thus, their suspensions will be held in abeyance until the process is complete.
