Indians recall LHP Shawn Morimando from AA Akron

Morimando, 23, has spent the entire season to date with Double-A Akron, going 10-3 with a 3.09 ERA in 16 games/starts (93.1IP, 77H, 32ER, 36BB, 73SO, .225 avg). The six-foot, 200-pound southpaw won each of his first nine decisions of the season.

The Cleveland Indians today announced the following roster moves relative to the 2016 Major League roster:
Recall LHP SHAWN MORIMANDO (#50) from Double-A Akron.
Designate INF/OF MICHAEL MARTINEZ for Assignment.
Morimando, 23, has spent the entire season to date with Double-A Akron, going 10-3 with a 3.09 ERA in 16 games/starts (93.1IP, 77H, 32ER, 36BB, 73SO, .225 avg). The six-foot, 200-pound southpaw won each of his first nine decisions of the season, while posting a 1.64 ERA (12ER/66.0IP) through 11 starts. Morimando currently leads the Eastern League in wins while ranking second in innings pitched, sixth in strikeouts & eighth in ERA. The Virginia Beach, Va. native will be making his Major League debut after being added to the 40-man roster in November of 2015. He was selected by Cleveland in the 19th round (578th overall) in the 2011 First-Year Player Draft.
Martinez, 33, has played in 32 games with Cleveland this season, batting .283 (17-60) with 3 doubles, one HR, 3 RBI and 10 runs scored. The veteran utility man has appeared at all three outfield positions, in addition to second and third base.
In two additional moves that do not impact the club's current 25-man roster, Cleveland has purchased the contract of RHP JOE COLON from Triple-A Columbus and optioned him to Columbus, while also returning OF ABRAHAM ALMONTE from his rehab assignment in Triple-A Columbus.
