The Miami Marlins today announced that they have acquired left-handed pitcher Hunter Cervenka from the Atlanta Braves in exchange for minor leaguers INF Anfernee Seymour and LHP Michael Mader. The announcement was made by Marlins' President of Baseball Operations Michael Hill.
Cervenka, 26, has made 50 relief appearances in his rookie campaign with Atlanta, going 1-0 with a 3.18 ERA (34.0 IP/12 ER). He is holding opponents to a .175 average, which ranks 10th in the National League among relievers. In addition, left-handed batters are hitting just .145 against him, with just nine hits in 62 at bats. Cervenka has stranded 25 of his 29 inherited runners this season, and his 13.8 percent inherited runner score ranks as the seventh-best mark in the Majors.
A native of Baytown, Texas, Cervenka is in the midst of his first season in the Majors. He opened this year in Double-A Mississippi and had his contract selected on April 11. He made his MLB debut on April 12 at Washington and did not allow a run in his first 15 games with Atlanta, allowing just one hit over 10 1/3  innings in that span. His streak of 15 consecutive scoreless outings ranked as the longest to begin a career by a Braves pitcher in Atlanta franchise history.
