LOS ANGELES - The Los Angeles Dodgers today recalled left-handed pitcher Luis Avilan, infielder Charlie Culberson and right-hander Ross Stripling from Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Avilan has posted a 5.91 ERA in 16 games in four previous stints with the Dodgers this year, limiting opposing hitters to a .200 batting average. In 30 games with Triple-A Oklahoma City, the 27-year-old went 0-3 with a 4.65 ERA, last pitching on Saturday at New Orleans, when he allowed one run in 1.0 inning of relief.
Culberson, 27, has hit .267 with two doubles and five RBI in 16 games during his two stints with the Dodgers this year, while appearing in the field at second base (one game), third base (four games, two starts), shortstop (six starts) and left field (two games). He's posted a .260 batting average with four homers and 33 RBI in 70 games with Oklahoma City.
Stripling, 26, is 3-4 with a 4.04 ERA in 15 games (11 starts) in four previous stints with the Dodgers in his first MLB season, limiting opponents to a .240 batting average. He last pitched on Aug. 18 at Philadelphia, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits in 5.0 innings in a no-decision.
To create room on the roster, the Dodgers placed left-handed pitchers Brett Anderson (blister, left index finger - retroactive to Aug. 21) and Scott Kazmir (neck inflammation) on the 15-day disabled list, and optioned right-handed pitcher Josh Fields to Triple-A Oklahoma City. Kazmir will be the 27th different Dodger to be placed on the DL this season, which ties the 2012 Red Sox for the most by any team in the last 30 years since 1987.
Anderson has gone 0-2 and allowed 11 runs in 4.0 innings in two starts since returning from the DL on Aug. 14 (arthroscopic back surgery), Kazmir has a 10-6 record with a 4.59 ERA in 25 starts and Fields has gone 1-0 with a 4.66 ERA in 11 relief appearances with Los Angeles since being acquired from Houston on Aug. 1.
