The Grand Junction Rockies announced today that Tim Ray is retiring as the Rockies General Manager, effective October 9, 2016. A relationship that dates back to 2001 when the Rockies moved to Casper, WY from Butte, MT, Ray will step aside from his management role, but will maintain a relationship with Grand Junction as a Community Ambassador representative of the Rockies.
"The time has come in my life to pass the baton to the young, energetic and very talented people that we currently have within our front office" says Ray. "I will always remain proud and humbled that I was entrusted by a passionate ownership group that continues to believe that the City of Grand Junction and the western slope deserve to have Minor League Baseball, which continues to be a strong amenity that our community is very proud of."
The Grand Junction Rockies began play in 2012, the same year that Tim Ray was named the Pioneer Baseball League Executive of the Year. Under Ray's watch, the Rockies were named as the inaugural 2013 winner of MiLB's John Henry Moss Community Service Award which is awarded to one minor league team in the country. In 2015, the Grand Junction Rockies were named as the Bob Freitas Award recipient as the top short-season franchise in the nation.
