Astros name Minor League Players of the Year

The Houston Astros Player Development Department announced today that infielder Alex Bregman has been named the Astros Minor League Player of the Year, and right-handed pitcher Brady Rodgers has been named the Astros Minor League Pitcher of the Year.

HOUSTON, TX - The Houston Astros Player Development Department announced today that infielder Alex Bregman has been named the Astros Minor League Player of the Year, and right-handed pitcher Brady Rodgers has been named the Astros Minor League Pitcher of the Year.
Both players are currently with the Major League club and will be recognized in a pregame ceremony on the field prior to tonight's game.
Bregman, 22, hit .306 with 22 doubles, 20 homers, 61 RBI and a .986 OPS in 80 games between Triple A Fresno and Double A Corpus Christi before making his Major League debut with the Astros in July. A Double A Texas League Midseason and Postseason All-Star, Bregman was named the USA TODAY Minor League Player of the Year, becoming the first player in Astros history to win the prestigious award. 
The second overall pick in last year's draft, Bregman started at third base for the U.S. Team in the 2016 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game and fell a home run shy of the cycle in a 3x5 performance. Bregman was also named the ESPN.com Prospect of the Year, and the MLB Pipeline Hitter of the Year.

Rodgers, 26, was the 2016 Triple A Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Year after going 12-4 with a 2.86 ERA, two complete games and one shutout in 22 starts with Fresno. A third-round pick by the Astros in 2012, Rodgers led all PCL pitchers in ERA while ranking second in walks per 9.0 innings (1.57), second in strikeout to walk ratio (5.04), fourth in WHIP (1.15) and tied for fourth in wins. A Midseason and Postseason PCL All-Star, Rodgers was the starting pitcher for the PCL at the Triple A All-Star Game. He made his Major League debut with Houston in September, pitching out of the Astros bullpen.
